We will schedule your appointment as promptly as possible. If you have pain or an emergency situation, every attempt will be made to see you that day. We try our best to stay on schedule to minimize your waiting. Various circumstances may lengthen the time allocated for a procedure. Emergency cases can also arise and cause delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
If you have an after-hours emergency, you can reach Dr. Wiseman by calling our office and following the directions on our voice message.
Scheduling
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation where we will perform a few simple tests, radiographs, and possibly a CBCT Scan if needed to confirm the recommended treatment. We will thoroughly explain your diagnosis and treatment options if needed. Treatment can generally be done on the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan may require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
Your First Visit
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 concerns, we continue to lead our peers in the cleanliness stage. We use masks for patients and staff, and screen patients and staff for body temperature and symptoms before treatment. We thoroughly wipe down treatment rooms, check-in, and check-out areas, as well as pens, doorknobs, or any other potential transmission sites. We email all new patients our office COVID-19 guidance in addition to your Online patient Registration email.

What To Bring
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your referral slip and any X-rays if applicable.
- A list of medications you are presently taking.
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 at the consultation visit.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, history of infective endocarditis, congenital heart disease, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) or require medication prior to dental cleanings (i.e antibiotics, for pre-med.) If possible, bring a list of your medications with you to the consultation.
If you have taken premedication prior to dental visits for your joint replacement surgery in the past, read HERE and HERE about why this is no longer necessary. Consult with your orthopedic surgeon if you require premedication or have questions about this topic.
X-RAYS
If your previous dentist has taken recent x-rays (within 6-months), you may request that they email them to our office. We can also call your dentist to request on your behalf. In some cases, we will need to take additional x-rays at our office.
Before & After Care
Pre & Post Op Instructions
If you have any questions, please call our office at 605-221-5800.
This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work. A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.
Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable.
If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
If you have any questions, please call our office at 605-221-5800.
Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender for several days as a result of manipulation during treatment and previous condition of your tooth. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. Do not chew food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed.
NOTE: Alcohol intake is not advised while taking any of these medications. Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with the above listed medications, or should swelling develop, please contact Dr. Wiseman immediately.
The office telephone is answered during the day and Dr. Wiseman can be reached by following the instructions on our voice message. If you need to call after hours, please have your pharmacy number available.
Endodontic treatment has now been completed. The root canal system has been permanently sealed. However, the outer surface is sealed with a temporary restoration. A follow-up restoration must be placed to protect your tooth against fracture and decay. Please telephone your restorative dentist for an appointment. A complete report of treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist.
Your tooth is more prone to fracture immediately after endodontic treatment. You should chew on the other side until your restorative dentist has placed the permanent restoration.
"I am extremely nervous and get very anxious about any kind of dental work. Hands down best experience I have ever had!! Everyone was so professional and helped me feel comfortable and relaxed. I actually almost fell asleep during the procedure. Can not say enough good things or recommend this place enough!!!"
